Eating Out on 30A in a Wheelchair: An Honest Guide

Dining out is one of the best parts of a 30A vacation. But for wheelchair users, a great menu means nothing if you can't get through the front door. Here's our honest rundown.

The Best: Fully Accessible and Worth Every Bite

Great Southern Café (Seaside) — Level entry right on the town square. Spacious interior, accessible restrooms, and the Grits à Ya Ya are legendary. This is usually our first stop when we arrive on 30A.

Shunk Gulley (Gulf Place) — Right next to Ed Walline Beach Access, making it the perfect post-beach meal. Level entry, good spacing, accessible everything. The raw oysters are unreal.

Old Florida Fish House (Eastern Lake) — One of the most accessible restaurants on eastern 30A. Level entry, spacious layout, accessible lakefront deck. The sunset views over Eastern Lake are spectacular.

Fish Out of Water (WaterColor Inn) — Hotel-grade accessibility. Elevator access, level entry, spacious dining. The food is exceptional — AAA Four Diamond rated.

Pizza by the Sea (Seaside) — The best pizza on 30A in the most accessible setting. Open layout in Seaside's town square. Grab a slice and eat outside — the square is flat and wheelchair-friendly.

Great Food, Check First

Bud & Alley's (Seaside) — Seaside's original restaurant. Ramp access available but ask which entrance. Rooftop bar has elevator access. The sunset views are worth the effort.

George's at Alys Beach — Fully accessible in the stunning Alys Beach setting. Level entry, spacious courtyard, accessible restrooms. High-end dining done right.

Skip These (In a Wheelchair)

The Red Bar (Grayton Beach) — We love the Red Bar. The atmosphere, the jazz, the history. But it is NOT wheelchair accessible. Steps at the entrance, narrow interior, no accessible restroom. We say this with sadness, not judgment.

The Bottom Line

30A's food scene is genuinely excellent, and the majority of restaurants can accommodate wheelchairs. The key is calling ahead. Most restaurants will move furniture, open side entrances, or make accommodations if they know you're coming. But some buildings are simply not accessible, and it's better to know before you arrive.
